Commonly Used Terms

Here is a list of terms, phrases and names and what they mean in the world of Steam and Cogs. This list will change from time to time and if there is a word or phrase you don't understand please PM one of the group moderators and they will update this list!

Common Terms

Puffer - steam powered carriage
Order of the Enduring - Religious group fanatically against all high technology and its byproducts, also a potentially controlling force in the Heart Cities. Also known as the Order for short
High Technology - all technology more advanced than the current steam engine and cogs level
Forbidden Fruit - any remnant of technology left over from before the Great Purging

Races & Professions

Mersha - Matriarch and leader of a Murroch tribe. Her word is law.
Preen - One who specializes in cleaning and care of feathers. They are also known to be some of the best in cosmetic applications. They are usually only employed by high ranking Avar clans. Some humans find them to be novelties and higher Preens for big events or parties.
Grinder - a person who works on or makes cogs and associated steam machinery
Geer - a person who works on and maintains a running steam engine and its associated systems or has otherwise assumed the profession of designing said systems
Captain - a person in command of a sea vessel, either steam or wind powered
Loftier - /Loft-ee-air/ a person in command of an airship and a member of the guild
Abomination - derogatory term for any sentient being, not Avar or Murroch, resembling a human, coined by the Order of the Enduring. Alos known as a Mina slang

Locations & Groups

Heart City - one of five predominantly human populated cities that originally banded together to provide safety to its population. These cities are also the core of human civilization. Within the borders of the territory controlled by each city any one belonging to one of the other three races; Avar, Murroch or Mina; that are not spoken for are often imprisoned or enslaved in this area, largely due to the Order's influence.
